Why your writing isn’t paying off (yet) and how to fix it
Fix your writing with this 3 currencies
If you’ve been writing online for a while sharing your thoughts, showing up with value, being consistent yet still feel stuck?
This might be why.
See, we all trade from three “currencies” every day:
🕐 Time
📚 Knowledge
💰 Money
Most of us?
We burn all three… without realizing which one we actually need to trade more intentionally.
And when it comes to writing for visibility or income, this matters a lot.
Let me explain:
When I started writing online…
I thought I was doing the “hard” part.
Being consistent. Showing up. Writing with value.
And I was.
But I was also using the wrong currency.
I was spending time and effort on writing posts that sounded nice…
…instead of asking, “What do I need this content to do for me?”
Eventually, I realized something most writers don’t talk about:
🔁 Writing is a trade.
And if you’re not thinking in terms of return, you’ll stay in output mode forever.
So what do you trade when writing?
Let’s make it simple:
If you lack... Trade These Why It Works Time Money + Knowledge Buy back your time with tools, help, or systems. Money Time + Knowledge Publish often. Offer value. Let visibility compound. Knowledge Time + Money Invest in coaching, books, mentorships then teach as you learn.
Most of us are writing but not thinking like builders.
→ We think writing is the job.
→ But it’s actually the vehicle.
What matters is: Where is your writing taking you?
📌 What changed for me:
I stopped measuring “success” by how much I published.
And started tracking the impact of what I published.
I stopped hoarding time and started spending money on help.
I stopped hoarding money and started investing in knowledge.
And slowly the writing stopped feeling like noise… and started opening doors.
Writer or not ask yourself:
Are you writing to be read… or to be remembered?
Are you building a library… or an ecosystem?
Are you writing for your peers… or your future clients?
If you’re only trading time, you’ll burn out.
If you’re only trading knowledge, you’ll stay theoretical.
And if you’re only trading money, you’ll outsource your vision.
The real growth happens when you choose the right 2 currencies for your season.
TL;DR:
Writing is a tool.
But tools only work when used with intention.
Your writing should buy you:
🧠 Trust (Knowledge)
💬 Conversations (Time)
💸 Clients, reach, or freedom (Money)
Not just applause.
💭 What to reflect on:
Which currency are you overusing?
And which one are you avoiding out of fear?
That’s where your next shift probably lives.
